My New Haircut
Yesterday Taylor and I went to a hair salon here in Rijeka. It
was a lady that the women had gone to last year, so I decided that I would give her a try, even though I was really nervous. We arrived there to find that due to some unscheduled customers, Zenka was running late. We waited for fourty minutes and Taylor was finally called back. I was already extremely bored, because I had not brought my book with me and all the magazines were in Croatian. While I waited, the stylist's assistant came out and asked if I would like some coffee. This was already out of the norm for what I had in mind as a salon, but I said yes thinking that she would bring me a cup from a back room. I said that I wanted white coffee (a latte) and she said "how about machiatto." I said ok and she walked towards the door instead of the back. She returned a few minutes later with a tray from a nearby cafe, that had multiples cups on it. She set one in front of me, and I preceded to drink it. I already like this part better than America...coffee while you wait! So then I am called bakc to get my hair
cut after seeing Taylor's finished product. She washed my hair, and gave me a wonderful head massage. When I sat down in Zenka's chair I told her I wanted something different. She smiled and asked if I liked the length, which of course I do, so she went to cutting my hair. I watched her closelyand every so often would say "It's good, ok?" Zenka cut my hair in really what seemed like reverse order, and when she finished her assista
nt dried my hair. Every so often Zenka would lean back and look at my face in the mirror, and the lady sitting next to me stared openly while her hair dye set in. When it was all over, the four people sitting in the back area looked and me and waited for a reaction. I looked in the mirror, and actually smiled...it was good. I turned and told her I liked it and Zenka smiled, because she was scared I would cry I am sure. My hair is not crazy, but it is a simple Croatian cut. Meaning long at the bottom with short layers that get longer as they reach my face. So Mom I hope you like it, because this cut definetely frames my face! I just need to get used to doing it myself now.
