Another Cultural Experience

Friday night three of us women went to a concert here in Rijeka with two of our Croatian friends. The concert was for Gustafi, a Croatian "folk rock" group. It was a fun experience and the music was pretty good. That judgement though simply comes from the music since I could not at all understand the lyrics. The crowd was singing and dancing with the music, and they squeezed us in until the people moving back and forth for drinks became a huge annoyance. If you take that away, and the smoke, I would say that it was one of the most fun concerts I have been to. The opening band added to this because believe it or not the Croatians have a mariachi band. They were dressed traditionally and played the classic Spanish music, and kept the crowd entertained for almost an hour. It was a great way to dive further into the Croatian culture and a fun experience to have with our friends. Sunny has video, and will soon be putting it on her blog, so check that out sometime (when I say soon, that means most likely some time this week=0). Taylor, Sunny, and I at the Concert. Doda and Bojana were with us, but their picture didn't turn out well due to a bright flash in a dark room.=0(
The mariachi band. Their performance and the crowds acceptance of them shocked me, though it was nice to recognize some songs like Cucaracha.
Gustafi after their first song. They quite the range of things going on, from singers to the normal band stuff to shakers, trumpets, saxophone, clarinet....
